We reconstructed every historical build of a competitive shooter and played them in sequence over five weeks. Each patch answered the loudest complaint of its moment, and the cumulative result is a flatter, safer, less interesting game than the one we originally scored 8.6.

Recorded lap telemetry across eight builds of a racing title shows roughly a four per cent change in cornering behaviour, delivered in an update whose notes describe only a stability fix. The game is better for it, which is not the point.
